EBMUD WaterSmart Residential Landscape Rebate Program

NOTE: Initial group meetings are no longer required to participate in this program. Participants must use at least 1,000 gallons per day during a billing period that includes the month of August. Individual appointments to initiate your participation will be available after January 1, 2006. A representative must meet with you at your home before eligible landscape upgrades are installed. All projects MUST be approved in advance.

  Landscaping the water-wise way

EBMUD offers rebates to single-family homeowners who convert their high-water-use gardens into water-conserving landscapes. The purpose of the program is to educate homeowners about water savings in the garden, encourage irrigation efficiency and the use of landscape plants appropriate for our summer-dry climate and provide financial assistance to achieve these water savings.

Program Participation

Participation in the program is on a first-come first-served basis. In order to qualify for a rebate, all projects must be pre-approved and there are minimum water use requirements. Customers must use at least 1,000 gallons of water per day during a billing period that includes August.

The WaterSmart Landscape Rebate Program will rebate up to $1,000 for a portion of the cost of irrigation system parts (except for irrigation controllers) and landscape materials, including permeable hardscape (i.e. pavers, flagstone or brick set in sand or other materials that allow water to pass through).

Labor costs are not rebated. All changes must be made to an area that is currently being irrigated. The program cannot be used for an area that is not currently irrigated or to install landscaping at a newly built home or where no landscaping previously existed.
